The Paramus Auxiliary Police, formerly the Paramus Police Reserves, has been in existence since the early 1950’s. The name of the organization was changed to comply with State law. The Auxiliary Police fall under the State Office of Emergency Management and are under the direct supervision of the Paramus Office of Emergency Management and the Chief of Police. The Chief of Police designates a regular Police Officer to act as liaison between the Auxiliary Police and regular Police force.  All members of the Paramus Auxiliary Police receive basic training at the Bergen County Police Academy in Mahwah as well as additional in-service training throughout the year.  During the year, the members of the Auxiliary Police put in several hundred hours to assist the Paramus Police Department during times of emergency such as fires, accidents, power outages, etc. The Auxiliary Police as part of their training are also utilized by going on Patrol in the Borough and assisting the regular patrol with checks of the schools, churches, parks and other public areas in the Borough.  Residents of Paramus as well as others towns that border Paramus without an active Auxiliary unit are eligible to join. To be a member, you must be between the ages of 18 – 65, be physically fit and able-bodied and must be able to perform the duties of an Auxiliary Police Officer.
